FAQs

What are the dates of the summer programme?

The summer programme runs from 5 July to 8 August 2026. Transfer days are Sundays.

2

What is the price?

The course costs £1,940 per week. Returning students receive a 10% discount. If a returning student recommends a friend who has not previously attended the course, they will receive a free week as a thank you.

2

What is included?

The course is all-inclusive, covering accommodation, tuition, food, and all activities and excursions. The only additional costs are pocket money for your child and airport transfers if you would like us to arrange them.

2

Can you organise transfers to and from the airport for my child?

Yes. Hurtwood is 30 minutes from London Gatwick Airport and one hour from London Heathrow Airport. We are happy to arrange transfers to and from both airports. Simply provide the flight number, arrival time, and terminal, and students will be met in the arrivals hall by a member of the Hurtwood team wearing a bright pink T-shirt and carrying a bright pink Hurtwood sign. If your child is travelling using an unaccompanied minor service, please let us know so we can provide the necessary contact details. Transfers are run at cost to provide maximum flexibility for parents.

3

What does my child need to bring?

The summer school is informal and very active, so comfortable clothes such as shorts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, tracksuits, and trainers are ideal. Students should also bring a smart outfit for our discos and formal dinner, sportswear for activities such as football, swimming, and tennis, and a towel. UK weather can change quickly, so it is best to pack for both warm and cooler or rainy days. Laundry facilities are available at the school. Many parents give their child pocket money for souvenirs. Some provide a prepaid debit or junior currency card, although cash is also acceptable. Any cash is collected for safekeeping on arrival, and students can withdraw money daily as needed.

4

What ages does Hurtwood accept?

The Hurtwood House Summer Programme is available for students aged 11 to 17.

4

How do you ensure my child is in the correct level of class?

Upon arrival the students will take a short writing and speaking test and are allocated to a teaching group suited to their current level of English. During the course they are re-assessed and when progress is made, students are moved to more advanced teaching groups
Over the years the school has found that even those who come as absolute beginners (with virtually no knowledge of the language) leave with the ability to speak and write basic English.
For the higher level students lessons are focused on honing advanced language skills and developing a finer grasp of the English Language.
